Mail & Flowers

Your mail will be delivered to your room Monday - Friday. Flowers and gifts are delivered to your room daily. Mail and flowers should be addressed in care of Beaufort County Hospital, 628 East 12th Street, Washington, North Carolina, 27889. Your full name and return address should be included on the cards. Patients in ICU cannot receive flowers, balloons, or gift baskets. Flowers and mail received after discharge will be redirected to the patient’s home address.

Television

There are two buttons on your television remote control. One controls the TV channel and the other controls the volume of your TV. Both cable and local television channels are available. If you need help controlling your television, please ask for assistance. Also, we ask that all patients be considerate by keeping your television volume as low as possible to keep from disturbing other patients.

Telephone & Cellphone

Most rooms have a telephone for your convenience. Telephones are also available at the nurses’ stations and in some waiting areas, for use on a limited basis. If your room is not equipped with a private phone, ask your nurse or hospital volunteer for assistance. Public telephone booths are located in the waiting rooms and the emergency room. Please see page 24 of this handbook for a listing of important telephone numbers.

To make a local call, dial 7, and the number you wish to call.

To make a long-distance call, dial 7, then 0, then the area code and number you wish to call. Long-distance calls cannot be charged to your hospital bill. You must make long-distance calls collect or charge them to your home number or telephone credit card number.

Cellular phones are permitted in the hospital on a limited basis. Please be courteous to those around you and be aware of privacy issues. Please refrain from using the camera feature on cell phones while in the hospital. Also, please be aware of your surroundings, as the use of cell phones is not permitted in some areas such as ICU, the Emergency Department, and the Radiology Department. Please put your phone on vibrate or in silent mode when entering the hospital.

Visitor Information

Beaufort County Medical Center welcomes visitors, as we know visitors play an important role in your healing and recovery. We encourage your family and friends to visit during our regular scheduled visiting hours. Visiting hours are as follows:

Visiting Hours
Medical/Surgical patients:
12:00 noon - 8:30pm

Newborns and mothers (family only):
1:00pm - 8:30pm

Intensive Care Unit:
10:00am - 8:30pm
No more than two visitors are allowed to visit any one patient at the time. Visitors under the age of 12 may visit in special situations with appropriate adult supervision. Only immediate family and clergy may visit ICU patients. Visitation policies may be modified at the discretion of nursing staff and/or physician.

Behavioral Health Unit:
Monday - Friday 5:30pm - 7:00pm
Saturday & Sunday 2:30pm - 4:00pm
& 5:30pm - 7:00pm
Two family members per visit. Please remember that visitors who are demonstrating signs of illness are asked not to visit patients in the Hospital.

Smoking Policy
Beaufort County Medical Center is proud to offer a smoke and tobacco-free campus to patients and staff. This policy is designed to provide all patients and staff with a safe and comfortable environment while promoting healthy lifestyles throughout our community. This policy prohibits the use of any tobacco products on the campus of both BCMC and its subsidiaries, including parking lots and personal vehicles. Tobacco products include, but are not limited to cigarettes, cigars, chewing tobacco, and pipe smoking.

Dining
Beaufort County Medical Center invites visitors to enjoy our three dining options – The Hospital Cafeteria, The Grille and The Coffee Shoppe. Our dining services accept cash and debit cards.

Hospital Cafeteria
Our hospital cafeteria offers a variety of entrées, vegetables, desserts as well as an extended salad bar and beverages.

Breakfast 6:30 – 8:15am
Lunch 11:30am – 1:15pm
Dinner 5:15pm – 6:45pm
Dinner Fridays 5:00pm – 6:45pm

The Grille
The Grille provides made-to-order sandwiches, hamburgers and hot dogs, breakfast biscuits and beverages.
6:00am – 1:00am daily

The Coffee Shoppe
The Coffee Shoppe specializes in a full line of gourmet coffees, cappuccinos, lattes and smoothies. You will also find grab n’ go sandwiches, soups and pastries made with the freshest ingredients!

Vending machines
Vending machines are available 24 hours a day in the lobby across from the main elevators.
Visitors and patients are discouraged from bringing food from home; please check with a nurse
before doing so.
